Pre-Purchase Survey

Pre Purchase is a comprehensive inspection when purchasing a new or used vessel. It is a complete inspection of the vessel to ascertain it's condition as to overall operational capability. This report includes:

  • Operation of all equipment and systems while the vessel is in the water (electrical systems, navigation systems, propulsion systems, fuel systems, all machinery and electronics).
  • An out of water inspection of the running gear and a sounding of the hull.
  • Complete inspection of the whole interior structure where accessible.
  • Estimated local market value based on condition and general maintenance.
  • Findings and recommendations.

This report is issued in compliance with boating standards set by Small Vessel Construction Standards as well as U.S. Coast Guard and I.M.O. Regulations if they apply.
We offer gasoline engine compression testing which in most opinions is critical when considering the purchase of a pre-owned boat or yacht. All engine cylinders are tested individually to determine wear and tear and how well the engines have been maintained. A complete survey and percussion sounding of the hull and decks will be required by your insurance company before obtaining a new policy.
We make appraisals to establish a vessel's fair market value and to report that value to a lending institution.
An accurate appraisal is arrived at after a detailed inspection of the vessel's systems and overall seaworthiness.
An appraisal is also sought in establishing the value of older boats, engines and other marine property designated for tax filing purposes.

In order to extend its activities to other areas in the marine sector and also to maintain a long lasting relationship with its clients, IMB is actively involved in Quantity and Quality Assessment of Bulk Cargo, General Merchandise etc. On many an occasion this work entails not only inspections at loading ports but also inland involvements. Draught Surveys, Scale Weighing and General Supervision of Cargo Operations are routine work for IMB surveyors.

The Container Industry has also been a major source of assignments for IMB.Apart from the assessment of damage to the cargo,IMB is keen on providing value added service by the explicit understanding of the operational aspects of the industry, which can assist in determining the weakness in the transport chain.
